The anti-drug brigade and customs departments of the airport arrested a Malagasy couple on the evening of Wednesday, June 21, for alleged drug trafficking. The two Malagasy had in their possession Rs 3 million in foreign currency.
The couple tried to leave Mauritius with this sum of money. Arriving in the country on June 11, the man, who is a travel agent, and his wife, who is a dancer, had the task of collecting the revenues derived from the sale of narcotics delivered to a network operating in the suburbs of Port Louis.
The authorities suspect that the couple is working for a trafficker operating on the Big Island and is in business with a currently imprisoned guy.
The two Malagasy will be translated in court of Mahébourg this Thursday morning June 22, where they will be charged for money laundering.
